Locally owned interior and exterior painting for the Vilas neighborhood of Madison, WI — Victorian and Craftsman homes near Vilas Park. Free estimates.
Vilas sits on Madison's near west side, a mile and a half to two miles southwest of the Capitol, with streets named after U.S. presidents and a housing stock that dates back to the neighborhood's earliest development in 1889. It grew quickly after the Breese Terrace streetcar line arrived in 1897, and today it's known as much for Vilas Park, Henry Vilas Zoo, and the Monroe Street shopping strip as for its late-19th and early-20th-century homes.
Fine Finishes Painting offers interior painting, exterior painting and cabinet painting for homes throughout Vilas. Free estimates are available, and the company serves all of Dane County — call 608-354-4105 or request a quote online.

Fine Finishes provides interior painting throughout Madison, Wisconsin and the surrounding Dane County communities. Most of our interior work sits within a 25-mile radius of the Capitol, and we schedule crews by corridor so travel time is never billed to you.
Vilas developed in two main waves — the 1889 Wingra Park Addition and the 1896 Oakland Heights Addition — and its housing reflects that late-19th/early-20th-century period: Victorian, Queen Anne, Craftsman bungalow, Tudor, Cape Cod, and cottage styles side by side. Homes this old commonly have original wood siding, decorative trim (especially on Victorians and Queen Annes), and multiple layers of old paint that need proper assessment before a repaint. Being close to Lake Wingra also means more shade and moisture on some lots. Nearly all homes in Vilas predate 1978, so lead-safe work practices apply whenever old paint is disturbed.
Detailed trim and gingerbread work on Victorian and Queen Anne homes is a regular part of exterior painting in Vilas.
Bungalow-style exteriors near Monroe Street are another common project type throughout the neighborhood.
Wallpaper removal comes up often in homes this old that have gone through several style changes over the decades, alongside interior painting for original plaster walls.
The Monroe Street business strip runs along the neighborhood's edge, and Fine Finishes Painting offers commercial painting for shops and restaurants along the corridor in addition to its residential work in Vilas.
Common Vilas projects include repainting elaborate Victorian or Queen Anne trim and gingerbread detail, refreshing a Craftsman bungalow's exterior near Monroe Street, or stripping old wallpaper and repainting interior plaster in a home that's changed hands several times since it was built.

Fine Finishes Painting is a locally owned and operated painting contractor serving Madison and Dane County, including Vilas. The company states it is licensed and insured, and backs every project with its 100% Satisfaction Commitment — if something needs attention after the job is done, it gets fixed. Fine Finishes handles both residential and commercial work, so a Vilas homeowner and a nearby Monroe Street business can use the same crew.
Every project starts with a free estimate, followed by a color consultation if needed, careful prep (masking, patching, sanding, and lead-safe containment for pre-1978 surfaces), the paint application itself, and a final walkthrough. The 100% Satisfaction Commitment covers that last step — if anything needs a touch-up afterward, it gets addressed.
